WWE.com is reporting that former wrestler and manager "Golden Boy" Arnold Skaaland passed away yesterday at the age of 82.
Skaaland was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1994. He and Spiros Arion briefly held the promotion's United States tag team titles in 1967, but Skaaland was better known as the babyface manager of heavyweight champions Bruno Sammartino and Bob Backlund during the 1970's and early 1980's. Skaaland is best known by modern wrestling fans for throwing in the town for Backlund during his December 1983 WWF title loss to the Iron Sheik.
Skaaland was also a part owner of the WWWF, and assisted former own Vincent J. McMahon in running the promoion. He resided in Westchester, New York. The WWE.com article describes Skaaland as a "member of the WWE family".
The moment where Skaaland threw in the towel on Bob Backlund ending Backlunds 5 plus year title run against the Iron Sheik will live forever along with the events that followed.
Rest in Peace Arnie Skaaland 1925-2007 you will forever be missed.
